Jose’s Story
In the bustling city of Reno, Nevada, 50-year-old Jose, originally from Mexico, is a devoted family man and a diligent worker in the fields. His life has been a tapestry of hard work and cherished moments with his wife, all grounded in the simple joys of daily life.
However, in March of this year, Jose began to notice a troubling change. His vision started to blur, as if a white cloud was constantly in front of his eyes. “Well, mostly I see things blurry, like with a cloud, sort of white,” he explained. What began as a mild inconvenience soon escalated, affecting his ability to work and participate in family activities.
Well, mostly I see things blurry, like with a cloud, sort of white…
Unsure of where to turn, Jose found hope through a local clinic dedicated to assisting individuals with limited resources. “He recommended us here to this foundation,” Jose said, referring to the person at the clinic who guided him to Pacific Vision Surgery Center (PVSC).
Accompanied by his wife, Jose arrived at PVSC and was met with warmth and understanding. He was introduced to Dr. Susan Longar and resident Dr. Shane Griffin. After a comprehensive evaluation, they diagnosed him with a significant cataract causing his vision impairment. They recommended a phacoemulsification cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation—the advanced procedure that has restored clear vision for many patients.
The surgery was a success. With his sight restored, Jose looks forward to returning to the fields with confidence and safely providing for his family. The improvement in his vision has not only enhanced his work life but also allowed him to fully engage in precious moments with his loved ones.
Pacific Vision Surgery Center’s commitment goes beyond medical excellence. Through their Patient Assistance Fund, they provide financial aid to uninsured patients, ensuring that individuals like Jose receive the life-changing eye care they need, regardless of their financial situation.
